The “Ring” started in 2002 (?) as a way to extend the fun of NATS after the final battle on Friday. Some pieces of the PVC used to protect the campaign targets were joined together and anchored to the bottom, add boats and aggressive captains and carnage ensued. Some years the PVC isn’t available so the battle doesn’t happen, and because it is an “unofficial” battle, not counting towards the final NATS scores, the winner wasn’t always noted.
